Fans and musicians unite!

HELP US MAKE THIS ALBUM HAPPEN!

What a night… 14th June 2024 will be forever etched in our memory. After a magical gig with our all time hero Bob Sedergreen, we all let out a huge sigh of relief that indeed we had pressed record and got all that beautiful music down on tape.

Now – almost a year to the date – we are ready to press the vinyl and today is your chance to help make that happen.

You’re all well aware of the constrictions on the music industry in these times – so we’re asking fans to pre-order “Checkerboard Lounge with Bob Sedergreen Live at The Jazzlab” in order to fund the manufacture of the album and at the same time ensure that you have it in your hot little hands.

This was one special night and captured in the recording is the mastery of these players, their playfulness palpable in the delight of the audience, their joy in every last note as it rings out across the Jazzlab stage …

It’s such a great album, we’d love to give it a full production run, but as it is with live music, some such special events are often a one off opportunity. And here’s yours for the taking …

So this is something of an exclusive release – a very limited edition will be printed to vinyl – just however many are ordered – so PRE-ORDER here to secure your copy. This invitation lasts until April 4th, 2025. So please let anyone else you know who might be interested and pass the details on before that quick deadline.

Email:checkerboardlounge4@gmail.com to secure your copy now! We’ll take your details and you’ll take our bank details and we’ll be good to go. Yep this is as grass-roots as it gets folks! 🙂

A True Tribute to Bob Sedergreen’s Legacy

Bob Sedergreen is a renowned Australian jazz and blues pianist, composer, educator and pioneer of Australian music and jazz, with over six decades of musical experience. Now 82, Bob continues to inspire with his electrifying performances, incredible talent and infectious groove. With his influence on the band, each of its members, Carl Pannuzzo (drums, vocals), Zoë Frater (bass), Shannon Bourne (guitar) and Tim Neal (Hammond organ), the night brought an exceptional blend of improvisational chemistry to the recording. Whether covering classics like “Sweet Little Angel” or featuring Bob’s own original pieces, blues remains the heart and soul of this album, enriched by tastes of jazz, soul, gospel and African rhythms. There’s also a killer tango of just piano and Hammond organ in a meeting of a once student-teacher relationship between Tim and Bob that is one for the history books. We’re proud as punch of the result.

This one-of-a-kind project, deftly recorded and mixed by sound engineer Myles Mumford of Rolling Stock Studios, showcases Bob Sedergreen’s mastery of the blues, as well as his original compositions, alongside those of Carl Pannuzzo and, as always, some stoinkingly good covers.

Exceeding their already hallmark prowess as world-class musicians, the whole band rose to the occasion, Zoë with her indelible groove, uber-musical interplay and masterful solos, Shannon with his chameleon like scope as a dynamically sensitive and downright dirty fret tamer of the highest order, Tim with his seemingly boundless sweep of harmony, cools and bringing-it-home blues, and Carl’s fearless and soulful abundance in vocal expression and high-wire drumming – all this in raptures of passion and play with the inspiration of Bob’s unbelievable musicality and hard-hitting swing.
